LEVEL OF ARTICULATION

Level of Articulation defines the complexity of a structure's physical assembly. In luxury design, this spectrum ranges from Monolithic (seamless, single-material forms) to Articulated (visible joinery and distinct parts) and Ornamental (decorative relief and embellishment). It dictates whether a home feels silent and modern, or historic and narrative.

MONOLITHIC & SEAMLESS

The object appears to be "carved" or "molded" from a single material. There are no visible joints, seams, or distinct parts. This is the highest form of clarity in modern design—the removal of visual noise to create a sense of infinite calm, referencing the tenets of Minimalism.

Aperture detail. A frameless skylight that looks like a simple hole cut into the ceiling. No trim.

Apertures & Architectural Passages

Frameless glass, kerf-jamb doors with no casing, drywall-return window openings, and invisible hinges.

Architectural detail. A wall meeting a floor with no baseboard, just a floating shadow reveal (fry reglet). Seamless plaster to stone.

General Architecture & Form

Flush baseboards (fry reglets), knife-edge ceiling coves, hidden door frames, and volumes that appear solid and continuous.

Flora, Landscape & Hardscaping

Negative-edge pools with no coping, poured-in-place concrete walls, and continuous paving from inside to out.

Fixture detail. An integrated stone sink that is part of the countertop. No drop-in rim.

Integrated stone sinks, touch-latch cabinetry (no hardware), mud-in linear diffusers, and trimless recessed lighting.

Surface detail. A waterfall countertop edge where the vein flows perfectly over the side. No overhang.

Architectural Surfaces & Finishes

Waterfall stone edges, large-format porcelain slabs with minimal grout, seamless micro-cement or plaster floors.

Furniture silhouette. A block-like sofa fully upholstered in one fabric. No legs visible. One continuous form.

Furnishings, Decorations & Textiles

Fully upholstered plinth-base furniture, solid block tables, and drapery that runs floor-to-ceiling within pockets.

The object is clearly an assembly of distinct parts. The "how it is made" is expressed and celebrated. Joints, seams, frames, and connections are visible, conveying a sense of honesty, craftsmanship, and truth to materials.
